Competence from Arnis

The biggest chart producing company in Germany belongs in the smallest city of the country, Arnis at the river Schlei. Here, the NV. Charts for the Baltic Sea and the Caribbean are produced and distributed. The charts are designed to fit the pleasure sailor, and are therefore presented in the handy format 60 x 42cm. Our charts are sold as kombipack containing: paper charts and digital charts, the harbour pilot and the navigation program.

We offer a complete nautical solution,and with a system of numbers and coloured tabs the charts are organised with harbour pilot, navigation program and correction system – from the Oslo Fjord to Riga.
We developed the NV.Charts, after the same concept, and they cover the US east coast, Florida, Cuba, and the Bahamas. In the Caribbean from the Virgin Islands to Grenada, and in the Mediterranean Sea they cover the Balearic Islands.

All together Nautical Publications produced ca. 600 charts and 1000 details and harbour plans with own cartography. Except for the maintenance of those charts, another 2500 licensed charts will be bought from the Hydrographical Office and then be processed, gathered in areas and published in our own format.

The charts from Nautical Publications are designed to fit the pleasure sailor. The areas and anchorages are regularly updated and actualised through new measurements and aerials. Every year we present a new edition of the NV. Charts for the Baltic Sea, and a correction system to correct the charts from last year.

Thanks to our working team of hydrographers, cartographers, geographers and professional mariners, the name ”Nautical Publications” stands for charts and books published with competence and continuity since more than 30 years – competence from Arnis.

For many years, seafarers between the Baltic Sea and the Caribbean relied on the charts from Arnis. The pilots in the Kiel Canal climb on board with a laptop in their backpack, and with special charts from Nautical Publications, they navigate the big vessels through the narrow fairway and in the locks between Kiel and Brunsbüttel. The US Coastguard also uses the NV. Charts when taking their 70 vessels along the coast, and between Miami and Grenada. Monthly updates are then sent directly from Arnis to the American server.

For the regatta scene, the digital charts are here to stay. Nowadays, the regatta sailor has a network of displays on board, and the charts fit seamlessly together. For the Kiel-, Travemünde and Flensburg Fjord- week, Nautical Publications publish special charts. At the website www.nv-verlag.de, those charts are available for download.
